Turns out it is not only award season in Hollywood! Borrowed and Blue is one of our favorite wedding blogs that is designed to inspire and guide brides and grooms from across the US in 66 specific markets. Every year they come out with the only exclusively vendor-voted wedding industry awards. It's so unique (and fun!) that B&B allows the vendors themselves to hand-pick their very favorite companies to work alongside. We believe that your vendor team needs to be comprised of people who are not only talented and fit nicely into your budget, but that they are also a joy to work with! For example, it's difficult to get a sense of a photographers communication style if you are only viewing images in their online gallery, but it's absolutely essential to have the person capturing all your precious moments be someone who you feel comfortable interacting with - not to mention smooching and crying in front of.

At One Fine Day Events we strive to ensure that the dream team we help you build is comprised of individuals that make you smile. Holiday Decor: Gold & Copper Bottles

Every year I create the holiday table decor for our very large family holiday dinners. All of us chip in to help my mum in some way. I am not a good cook so my skills cannot be used in the kitchen...well I suppose they could but I don't think anybody would eat my food. This year, the theme for the table was copper, gold, and glitter!!! I always make an effort to use supplies I have lying around or left over from other projects. As we are big into celebrating and that often...who am I kidding, always involves a few bottles of wine and champagne, I gathered all the empty bottles and removed the labels. In addition, I gathered some votive candles, spray paint cans, glue, and glitter. Although waiting for the paint to dry is a bit time consuming, everything else is pretty quick. The end result provides a really pretty and festive look.

Step 1 - Paint the bottles. Lay out the bottles in your driveway on a garbage bag or a rag. Be sure to keep a good 6 - 10" distance from the spray paint can and the bottle...if the spray paint gets too close to the bottle, you will have paint dripping down the can. I like to wave my can back and forth as I spray up and down...it creates even coverage. Let the bottles fully dry before you touch them. You may have to add a second coat of paint.

Step 2 - Adhere the glue to the bottle. I tried an expensive glue and a plain old cheapo stick of glue - the cheap glue stick worked the best. Apply it to the specific area.

Step 3 - Add the glitter. Shake the bottle of glitter heavily over the bottle. Don't be afraid to add too much glitter - you can always pour the excess back into the jar. Let the bottles sit for an hour to dry.

Step 4 - Place the tapered candles into the bottles. You will probably have to shave off the base of the candle with a knife. Do this outdoors - candle wax can be a beast to clean up on the kitchen floor. Scrape just enough off so that you can screw the candle into each bottle.

Step 5 - Place your bottles. I scattered the tall and small bottles in threes to provide a nice dimension down the table. 

Step 6 - Add additional decor. Add a garland, craft runner, whatever you fancy! Light the candles and enjoy your decor!

A Celebration for our Vendors

We LOVE all of our vendors so much and REALLY value their hard work...so we threw them a party! And it wasn't just any party...we designed an evening of merriment with live music by the very talented Brian Hess Band, delicious cocktails & appetizers by PlumpJack, and because we can't just throw a party in an empty space, we designed an intimate rustic-chic outdoor cocktail party full of pretty little details from our Signature Decor Collection!  It was such a great way to start the summer and thank everyone for working their little booties off for our clients. Take a little peak at the decor below: 

We created a rustic chic entrance to the Creekside party with our old wooden ladders, olive branches, shabby chic pots, and lots of candles...who doesn't love a candle lit entrance?

-Forever Heyday made the most beautiful invitations for the party! It was the perfect way to set the scene and let everyone know this is a "must attend" party!

We built this organic chandelier with grapevine balls, rosemary, and olive branches.

Chef Wyatt from PlumpJack Squaw Valley Inn provided delicious appetizers to keep us mingling all night long.

 Brian Hess Music serenaded the crowd with an eclectic mix of music!

Bending Branch Studio Booth created an amazing reclaimed wooden backdrop with Edison bulbs hanging on either side.

Lake Tahoe Vendor Mixer for Tahoe Unveiled

Last night we had our first vendor mixer for our sister company, Tahoe Unveiled.  Tahoe Unveiled is an online resource providing all of your inspiration and vendor needs. We decided to get all of the our wonderful vendors together to enjoy an evening of mingling, networking, and of course enjoying some vino! It was a great success and it was so nice to get together with all of our favorite companies in the area. Thanks so much to The West Shore Cafe for hosting this great event!!Here are a few pics from the night! Check out that gorgeous view we are so lucky to have as our backyard!!

Holy Moly!!! I am SO excited to share this news! A few months ago we received an inquiry from CNBC....yup that big massive network! They requested to interview me regarding scams in the wedding industry and the article is now live on their site! Unfortunately, we are quite familiar with these scam artists and the ugly side of planning a beautiful celebration. From gift theft, to inflated irrational pricing, to blatant money thieves, we have witnessed it all! A few years ago we created a post on our blog to warn our fellow wedding planners and vendors about this lovely fella pretending to be a groom. It has since attracted the attention of over 60 planners across the country and hopefully prevented anyone from falling victim to this scam artist! The CNBC article is a great read for both brides and grooms planning a wedding as well as vendors involved in the industry. Read the entire article here - we are on page 2 - scam number 5!

Lake Tahoe Wedding Photography | Bret Cole Workshop Wrap-Up

Last month I participated in the first Bret Cole Photography Fellowship and I am SOOO very excited to reveal a few of the behind the scenes photos from the workshop! The purpose of the workshop was to provide both amateur and professional photographer’s with a weekend of inspiration and education to further their careers in the wedding industry. The event included four beautifully styled photo shoots and class time with lectures by myself, event designer Scott Corridan, Don Weinstein of Photo Impact Imaging film lab, Bret Cole of Bret Cole Photography, and Alexandra Tremaine of Tremaine Photography. Home base for the workshop was at the lovely Cedar Glen Lodge in Tahoe Vista and the photo shoot locations stretched from the top of Eagle Rock on the West Shore to a ranch out past Sierraville. Our favorite is the Sierraville wedding shoot which we helped design, of course! Such a gorgeous and amazing place – the shoot took place near an amazing old barn surrounded by fields, cows, horses, and nature…what more could you want? From Bret Cole ~ I came out of the experience with an overwhelming feeling of exhaustion and euphoria. The team effort and support I received brought tears to my eyes. The interest in film was widely apparent from the attendees….much more than I expected. And it was so wonderful to see them learn more about the wedding and portrait industry. They were like little sponges! It’s an awesome feeling to know I was able to help them and make a difference just by sharing my passion!!

Napa Weekend Get Away!

It was time to get our hands on the latest and greatest 2013 linens from our beloved linen company, La Tavola, and that meant a quick road trip down to wine wonderland, otherwise known as Napa Valley - and oh what a weekend we had! First stop was a quick snack for oysters and bubbles at the Oxbow Market....so yummy! Then we were off to La Tavola. Their 2013 linens are beyond amazing - from sequins, to lace, bright colors to pastels, they have everything a wedding planner could ever dream into reality. Inspiration, design concepts, and client ideas were all flowing through our minds as we wafted from one gorgeous inspirational table to the next. Have I mentioned they have one of the most stunning show rooms in existence? Linens were lining the walls in perfect order, champagne was flowing in the cutest little cans around, and there was a dessert bar to-die-for! Napa is so gorgeous this time of year, it's in full Spring swing, and it's making us so excited for this upcoming Summer!

Behind the Scenes | Mike and Vanessa's Lakefront Soiree

We are so excited to show you a little sneak peak of Mike and Vanessa's wedding from this Summer! Their wedding took place at Vanessa's parents' beautiful lakefront estate. From the blush & cream toned colors to the wicker and wood accents, their wedding was simply perfect!  

Vanessa walked down their family's pier and they were married under a beautiful chandelier-adorned pine tree.

After the ceremony, guests indulged in Season'd's delectable appetizers (formerly Moody's Catering) & signature cocktails while enjoying the view from the deck. In the midst of cocktail hour a large group of kayakers paddled by and wished Mike and Vanessa Best Wishes!

Dinner was under a beautiful clear tent dressed up with pewter draping, market lights, and gorgeous blush toned linens. It always takes a big group effort to set-up the tent and design all the details - but the end result is breathtaking!

Lake Tahoe Lakefront Wedding | Behind the Scenes with Coral Glitz

This week we wanted to show you another gorgeous wedding held at the West Shore Cafe this August. This Texan dream couple, with the sweetest family dynamic West of the Mississippi, was a blast to work with on their Coral Glitz inspired soiree! From the richly-textured and vibrant linens to the gorgeous duo of cakes, this wedding went off without a hitch! The vows were adorable, the speeches were so heartfelt, and the late night dance party was a blast!

Building the wedding on the big day!

This stunning deep purple textured linen (pictured above!) brought out the bride's love for bold colors...particulary plum and coral! The beautiful linens are pictured above bursting out of our car! Also shown is Johanna from Cake Tahoe building and designing not just one, but  two wedding cakes under the cake cabana!

Since the lovely bride loved a little glamour and some sparkle, we incorporated an array of chandeliers to float above the head table. Pictured below are these little beauties pre-install!

This amazing evening was capped off by late night dancing under the stars - no better way to end a gorgeous night!

Lake Tahoe Lakefront Wedding | Behind the Scenes

This summer we had quite the wedding season! It was filled with beautiful Lake Tahoe lakefronts, sweet ceremonies, loving and cute-as-can-be couples, heart-felt speeches, and some of the most touching father-daughter & first dances ever! As we look back on our super amazing summer season, we wanted to let everyone in on a little of the "behind the scenes" action that contributes to these gorgeous events! The following few pics are from an absolutely stunning wedding we had at the West Shore Cafe last July. Our bride was one of those dream lovelies that let us do what we do best - create and design! The inspiration behind this wedding was "Fanciful Whimsy", as the bride had oodles of whimsy and playful ideas! She loved unexpected natural elements and as she put it, "moments of drama"! We incorporated lots of greenery, succulents and even veggies (enter lots 'o romanesco!)  in architectural and innovative ways.

One super awesome detail that took lots of time and man-power (thank you strong muscle men!) was a customized photo booth for all of the guests. This 2-day construction was filled with lots of plants and Bloxes to create a super funky and customized party-sized photo booth!

Making it Happen!

Zephyr Tents has some of the most wonderful & magical tents, and nothing says a party like a flag flying in the wind on top! This beauty is not the easiest to put up but it creates a "wow" factor like no other!

We can't wait to share this whole wedding with you, and with Catherine Hall Studios behind the lens you know it's going to be great!!

Meet Our New Client!

Well hello my lovely brides! It's been a while since I blogged, but I wanted to introduce you to our new client!

This past week, I flew to Burlington , VT to attend a very good friend's wedding. As per usual, I perused through my selection of wedding magazines, popped an airborne in a bottle of water, and sifted through my 'to-do' list. However, this time the mood was slightly different as I flipped through the pages and glanced at all the gorgeous weddings....and the to do list had a slightly different agenda! I wasn't skimming through to catch glimpses of a few pretty weddings and sassy ideas to see if any of our client's would be interested in these pretties...  this time I turned every single page and read each cover to cover (advertisements, wedding gowns, if it was in print I read it) ... for my own wedding!!! Yup, that's right - this wedding planner is getting hitched and I could not be more ecstatic, thrilled, and elated!

Greg popped that magical question last week while we were paddle boarding at sunset on the lake. It was by far the best and most romantic moment of my entire life! When we were getting in the lake Greg insisted on wearing this tiny little life jacket - he does funny things like this so I didn't really think much of it! We paddled down the west shore, cruising past beautiful lakefront estates, chatting about normal things, and then Greg said, "Let's go check out that river and see if we can paddle up it." So without question I proceeded, but shortly afterwards turned around as it was getting shallow. And all of a sudden, Greg paddled up to me, jumped out of the water, and pulled out a gorgeous ring from his life jacket! I screamed, shrieked, laughed, and of course, said Yes!! I have replayed every moment over and over and I just can't believe it actually happened! I feel like the luckiest and happiest girl in the world!

I absolutely love planning weddings and I get super excited and giddy for all of our clients...especially the week of the wedding; but I had no idea I would feel this overjoyed about getting married myself. I am thrilled to share this moment with all of my clients and the many lovely engaged couples that read our blog.

We have a new website!

We're having such an exciting week at the OFD studio! Over the last few months we have been working with our designer on a new logo and website; today we are officially launching our new look! We are head over heels in love with it and SO excited to share it with all of you.

Our goal with the redesign was to more accurately reflect the aesthetic we bring to our event designs. We wanted something fresh, youthful, colorful, and easy to navigate. The new site has much of the same content as the previous site, but we've made a few additions. Take a peek at our galleries, press page, testimonials, team page and all the rest! We would love to hear what you think in the comments section of this post.

One Fine Day is a one stop shop to any and everything you might need to make the wedding in your mind come to life. With that being said, it takes lots of inspirational research to make sure each bride + groom gets the wedding for their dream-books. To help with this, our design team spends hours researching decor ideas and perfecting each and every detail to make sure all events are customized to the tee and reflect each couple's vision. There are many aspects that go into planning a beautiful and exquisite event, and I think the design process may be the most fun part!

Behind the Scenes | Design Research

Here at One Fine Day Events we are constantly trying to stay on top of the latest trends and styles, and with that requires really fun "research" projects! We scour bridal events, paper shops, design stores and clothing boutiques to research and perfect each client's dream vision for their wedding. A few weekends ago we had the pleasure of attending the Soolip Bridal Event in San Francisco. Afterwards, we took full advantage of being in the city and visited lots of shops, boutiques, and stores to make sure we have every option available at our fingertips to create the perfect design + details for each client's wedding. We gathered inspiration from fabrics, stationary and paper goods, food stores, flower shops, and even bed linens! Here are a few pics of us hard at work!

We were just a tad bit overwhelmed with Paper Source's reams of patterned paper...but we managed to select a few beauties for our upcoming photo shoots and weddings!! Looking forward to see what we put together!

Behind the Scenes with One Fine Day Events | The Design Process

This week we're finalizing a few design details for our upcoming wedding at the end of this month. Our couple wants a snow filled winter wonderland and hopefully mother nature will cooperate! Here's an example of one of their inspiration boards that reflects the decor and style of their wedding day!

We're working on creating an intimate atmosphere with lots of natural elements including moss, birch, candlelight and a soft color palate. We can't wait to see this all come together, hopefully against a backdrop of winter snow to complete the look!

One very important (and super fun!) aspect of our job is finding the perfect venue for each of our clients. We spend quite a bit of time working with venues and private estates to make sure they are a perfect fit for our clients. The amount of overall space, proximity to neighbors, and level ground are just a few of the key factors we look for in a private estate. We were recently out and about meeting with our homeowners and discovered an absolute gem on the "Gold Coast" section of the West Shore. Here's a picture of Paige and myself enjoying the sandy beach! It may look cold in this photo but come summertime, this beautiful estate is going to be absolutely magical for our clients!
